    Doberman loses appetite in summer
    Hey!

I have a 7 month old female Doberman. Is the start of summer and she seems to have lost her appetite. She smells the food and goes away from it. There was a time when she would eat almost anything in her bowl!

She is healthy other wise. Hyper and has proper stools.

Any idea on what could be wrong?

    Thank you!

For some reason, young dogs refuse to eat during a certain stage in their life.

What you're going to want to do is just stick to your feeding schedule you have her on. Offer her the food, give her 15 minutes to an hr to eat, if she doesn't eat it, put it up and wait until the next feeding. She won't starve herself. She'll eat when her body needs the food. You could also try baiting the food with something tasty, such as a canned food or "dog in mind" gravey. You could also add yogurt to her food. About a 1/4 cup and mix it up with her kibble.

You could also increase her exercise. Forced runs are never healthy for young dogs, but perhaps more walks or outtings where she will be both physically or mentally tired. If she's a very active dog, and is not getting enough exercise, her body is not demanding a lot of nutrients at this time, which will cause her to not demand food.

I'm sure more advise will be given from the others on this site

    Good luck

Has she gone through her first heat yet? Coming into season is notorious for putting Dobies off their feed. If she's just coming in, that normally hits a couple of days before she gets real attractive so watch out.
