    Wrecking another persons car
    I have a friend who was driving another person's car with that persons permission. My friend ran that persons car into a deer and now the owner of the car is threatening my friend that they will turn them in to the police saying my friend stole their car. Even though that isn't the truth can my friend really get in trouble?

    Hello kb:

    Sure. When somebody lies like that, it ain't good. If the owner wants to be paid for the damage, he should sue your friend in civil court.

    By the way, the owner himself can get into trouble for filing a false police report.

    The longer he waits to "tell the police" the more obvoius it is that it was not stolen.

    The fact he had the keys and after the wreck ( was police called to the scene) there was not a stolen car report either.

    If the driver has any injury, he can make a claim against the med pay or the liablity of the car insurance

    The owner of the car and sue the driver for damages to the car.

    What kind of coverage did the owner of the car have? If they had comprehensive then the deer accident would be covered. If they just had liability, then no, the damages would not be paid. The owner of the car needs to back off on filing the police report about the vehicle being stolen as well if that was not true.
