Keep in mind that, though it is almost necessary to have anti-virus, this will not necessarily speed up your Internet connection.

You will also want to make sure you are free of spyware (I recommend using Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy).

Ultimately, if you are free of viruses and other such malware (spyware, adware, etc), and your connection is still running slow, then you will want to run a speed test (Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test) and compare it to your bill from your ISP to make sure you are getting the speeds which you are paying for.

If you have issues not getting the speed you are paying for, then let us know if you are behind a router or not and your system specs.
