In 1994 I was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm in the state of New Jersey, which is considered a felony. 16 years later I am in the process of getting this conviction expunged from my record. I woul like to be a corrections officer in the state of Pennsylvania. Will I be able to?

Probably not. I think CO's have to be able to carry a gun and you can't.

If the conviction IS actually expunged, you will be able to possess a gun as every other citizen. BUT, law enforcement agencies will still be able to access your prior record and can legally deny you employment with them.

If you have gotten your right to carry a gun back ( and I am not sure explunging does not ** but not sure it does not) you may in a few states. A lot depends on where, some states pay such low pay to the correctional officers that they are always understaffed, in others some states pay more than the Federal Corrections pay and there would be little chance.

Hello s:

Nope. Incorrect! Expungement only HIDES the felony. It does not remove it. A pardon, on the other hand, DOES remove the conviction as though it never happened.

Please try to give better information.
