LOL! He might as well stand there and stare into the camera if that's a sample of what his apology is going to be like. Not really apologizing and not really admitting to anything. He better say more than that! Lol silly...
Now I see some of the golf reporters are protesting the non press conference because they won't be able to ask questions. Can you blame them? They should go home and watch it on television with the rest of us.

I always find these celebrity apologizes a little strange. I think more people should do what Charles Barkley did when he was caught drunk driving. He was honest and blunt he basically said yup I was stupid cause I drove drunk because I was going to get oral sex from some girl. Everyone accepted this and he is still on TV and doing commercials for Taco Bell.
If Tiger would have come out the next day and said look I shouldn't even be married I don't know why I even got married because I am not the settling down type. I think most people would have said oh he is a pig but at least he was honest. But no now he is in some BS rehab (cause that is what celebrities do when they get in trouble) and he is being standoffish about it which shows people how much of an A-hole he is.

The only person Tiger needs to apologize to is his wife and children and perhaps his sponsors. It is very arrogant of me or anyone else to expect an apology? The guy is human. He is not perfect. Sure he is a public figure, but I don't want to apologize publicly for all the things I have done wrong and I don't think the average person wants to either. Nobody can grant him forgiveness other than his wife and God.

That is why I like Charles Barkley he never apologized and no one cared. Eldridge Woods the man doesn't owe us anything. Really the people who created this false image of him being one of the good guys are the people who need to apologize

What do they need to apologize for? You don't think Tiger had a hand in crafting that image himself? He's a grown man, he allowed himself to be marketed that way, it makes for more $$$

Nikki because those people have been grooming this image of him since he was 5 years old. His entire life he was told how to act and how to put on this good guy image.

At some point no matter how long you are groomed you have to know between right and wrong and he knew what he was doing was wrong.
Can't put the blame on "those people". Those people didn't tell him to cheat
On his wife, he did that all by himself.

If he expects to retain the image that made him his fortune he had better do a better job than that patent phoney presser he held today. I don't have a dog in this because I couldn't care less if professional golf goes the way of roller derby . But he owes much more than just an explanation to his family.
His profession had a stake in the image that he helped promote. His career was much bigger than his ability to swing a club. It was carefully groomed to promote not just himself ,but his industry. That's why he made the big bucks.

Here is the thing that confuses me. Do you want him to apologize for him being who he actually is, His dad was divorced 3 times so it is in his blood. Or do you want him to apologize for presenting an image that everyone bought into that wasn't true? I guess I don't understand why people need an apology from a spokesman. Are the golf clubs he sold for Nike not as good anymore. Does the Gatorade not replace electrolytes anymore because he is a cheater. I guess I would expect an apology if he sold 10 million books on the secret to a happy marriage.

I think the apology is more geared towards his business model (basically the second option you presented). I think it has more to do with preserving sponsors than anything else.

I agree that the farce was carefully groomed to send a message to his sponsors. I again point out that his lack of character cost his whole profession and not just him.
Now you could say that it was his talent that enabled them to promote him ;but he was able to get the big buck purses ;not only because of his skills ,but in the image that was carefully crafted .
He is not only a player of the game ,he is also the markettable commodity ;the product ,and that is why the star athletes get the big bucks.
That is why team sports put a general morals clause in the player contracts... Because the player is not only representing themselves ;but also the game.
Take it or leave it . He could've rejected that and played the game every day he wanted to as an amateur.

He should have never gotten married. If he would have never gotten married and this came out that he is a whore no one would care at all. Derek Jeter makes a ton of money while being on page 6 with different women and no one cares.

Correct ;although when Steinbrenner told Jeter he wasn't focused as a leader of the team Jeter took the criticism to heart and at least publicly changed the image.
Again ;if Tiger were not a star (and you are probably correct about the marital status ) then there would be no public issue what-so-ever . But a big part of his image that was promoted was the family man.
Asked in an interview "family first and golf second ... always been that way?" Woods replied: "Always. Always."
He fostered the phoney image to promote himself . He could've just as easily been golf's swinger and maybe still had been as successful . But I doubt it... and of course everything about golf has been about Tiger for over a decade.
The Jeter example really doesn't apply because he is not even the best player on his team .
Michael Jordan's career is more of an example;and he took a big hit when his image was tarnished.

The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son a thousand times?
So now it's his dad's fault:confused:
I thought his dad only had one wife before he met Kultida.
Not going to lie, I bought into that image, paid in full.
When you're a spokesperson aren't you sort of an employee?
He signed contracts and some of those contracts have morals clause of which he broke big time, he did have to apologize to them as well. What he did affected more people than just his wife.

No I am not blaming it on his dad but I am not surprised. So now we get to the nitty gritty you bought into an image and now you are mad cause you were suckered. The golf equipment, the food and the cars he endorsed still work exactly the same way they did the before he was caught. So I don't think he owes any of us an apology.

Not mad, just disappointed.
I bought into the squeaky clean part, the products I couldn't care less about.
Never bought into anybody else's image because right now I can't think of any other athlete who was marketed more cleaner than Tiger.
Like I posted before, he only cheated on his wife since she's the only one married to him (let's hope:eek:) but his cheating on her affected more people that's why he apologized to those people in his speech.
Let's just hope he continues with his treatment and get's it together, he'll be all right, nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes. We should all be glad we didn't have to call a press conference for them.:p
