    First offense burglary - worried
Hi, my boyfriend was arrested a few months past for public intoxication. Last night he relapsed and left home drunk and stupid. He was charged for burglary and has no recollection of what happened or anything. He has never had another serious charge- what should I expect his sentence to be? I live in terre haute Indiana if that makes a difference. I would appreicate anything you could offer me. Thank you very much. I just want to know if I should be worried about not seeing him for 3 years or if he'll have a simple probation. I'm quite upset, your answer would bring me a lot of comfort to at least know what to expect.

    Thank you so much

    Hello hippie:

Well, it's not as simple as that. There are a LOT of factors that go into sentencing, and we only know one or two. Certainly, a MAJOR factor would be, who did he burglarize, how did he get caught, were there any sleeping people on the premises, and did he steal stuff...

If he just happened to wander into somebody's else's house because he was drunk, that's a lot different than going into somebody's house with the intent to steal.

However, not knowing the details, I'll assume it's a simple innocent thing, and suggest that he'll be put on probation.

he has no recolection of the events that happened but he just had his first court date and apparently he wandered in. stole 10 dollars and car keys. And randomly got into peoples cars and was caught walking around looking for his friends house. There were two sleeping people in the house. He also has one prior charge of public intox. And he is currently being charged with public intox and burglary. Should I be worried about years? Months? I have a feeling this isn't just probation unfortunetly.

    Hello again, hippie:

I asked about sleeping people because that's a much more serious event than burglarizing a place where there were no people.

I have a feeling you're right. Hopefully, he has a good lawyer.
