My vet always told me dogs don't get constipated. I would suggest taking your pup to the vet; at 8 weeks old, all systems are finding a way to cope with the growing body. You can't give the pup anything to have a bowel movement. What have you been feeding and how much ?

Have you taken her to the vet? With my pet, I am always safe than sorry.

Im guessing you only just got her if she is 8 weeks old?
Are you feeding the same food the breeder was feeding?
A sudden change in food can have nasty consequences.
If not then get her to the vet immediately, she may have a bowel obstruction.

A little stimulation in the tummy area, a soft rubbing with fingers in a downward motion, after eating may do the trick. That is what mom would do with her tongue after pups have eaten.

You have two posts about your dog.
One she is deaf or you fear she is ,now she is constipated.
Are you overreacting to being a new Mommy to a new pet?
You need to get a book, you need to become educated about pet care.
Start here, with this link. How to Have a Happy Puppy : The manual of puppy care and training.
Please make sure your dog is getting proper veterinary care and your vet will be happy to answer your questions over the phone.

I agree Artlady, could just be a case of a panicking new mom, I hope so anyway.
In addition to what you said about calling your vet, the vet nurse at our surgery is fantastic, she helps me out with all the little problems without having to pay to see the actual vet.

Hi, Sariss, I thought over the years with dogs, I have been through just about anything with them, but have never had the experience of tending a constipated dog. Although with your experience you are probably right. Please explain how one would deal with the constipation. My vet is a country vet dealing with large and small animals and has been in the business for a good number of years.

Did you read that OP is using two different names to post these two questions? :)
At any rate - concerning constipation in dogs my Vet recommended an over the counter stool softener BUT my dog was an adult. I have no idea what the dosage would be for a puppy, particularly a small puppy. I never prescribe for my dogs and ALWAYS ask the Vet first.

If your Vet has never heard of constipation in dogs I would send him this site - Top 10 Constipation cures for dogs | Dog Time.
As you will see constipation can simply be uncomfortable OR a sign or something serious.

With constipated dogs here we usually have to give them an enema, which is usually a disgusting concoction of warm water, lube, soap, lactulose, mineral oil, and an anti-gas solution. (it's not fun, and the stuff that comes out is even less fun).
Then they usually are put on a fibre formula, or given lactulose oral liquid to help, as the cause for it in most dogs is very hard stool, so a stool softener is given.
It's more common in cats it seems, but we do have some dogs with chronic constipation issues, and it's a pain in the butt (no pun intended)
