For the past couple of weeks I've been having random 30 seconds bouts of Nausea a few times a day. My lifestyle hasn't changed other than a few emotional downs, but otherwise I've been fine and happy. I don't take any medication aside from the usual Tylenol or Aleve. What could be possible causes?

Female, 19. I took one a month ago because my period was a month late, which came out negative. I got it soon after though but it was a day or so shorter than usual. I'm irregular to begin with so I'm not sure what to make of it (I get it every other month, normally).

Every time I hear about random bouts like that, pregnancy is the first thing I think. Also consider that you wouldn't be the first woman in history to get her period after conceiving.

Might be worth a test or visit to the OB

When I got it though it was normal, I went through pms with chest soreness, etc. which caused me to think they were pregnancy symptoms until I got my period. Those symptoms went away with my period. Wouldn't there be symptoms aside from nausea?

Usually, but each woman is "blessed" with her own set of 'gifts". You may only have nausea for now.

Or it could be something else... this is just the most obvious.

So many things can be associated with nausea. Stress, headaches and fatigue can all cause nausea.
You mention that you take Aleve. Aleve is an NSAID, how often do you take it? Do you take it with other drugs or alcohol? If you have taken Aleve for a long time, you could have caused some gastritis, and this too, combined with GERD, can also be a cause of nausea.
The other thing that causes concern that you have explained is that you have a cycle every other month. Something is going on with the ovaries on the side that doesn't produce a cycle... is your Dr. aware of this pattern?

My suggestion at this point is to go to the OB rule a few things out and be your own advocate and let him know exactly what you are experiencing. Have them perform a blood test to rule out pregnancy. Women can get false negative tests using the usual home kits. Explain that you are having bouts of nausea and request the usual battery of tests completed at your annual visit.

I take it a couple times a week and not with other drugs and I don't drink alcohol. What exactly is the relevance of it being an NSAID? I'm not too familiar with the term. Also, I mentioned it to my obgyn a few years ago on an annual visit in which birth control was suggested, but I do not want to go on birth control.

I asked that because... Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) Long term use have been know to cause some gastritis, and this too, combined with GERD, could be the reason for your nausea.

In addition Aleve (Naproxen) can create some serious gastrointestinal problems. If you haven't already you should read the rather extensive warnings associated with this drug.

The transitory nausea may be unrelated or it could be a premonitory sign of a developing reaction. Worth checking out particularly if it continues.

I am also a 19 year old female with the same issue. Sometimes the nausea can be debilitating, but its also gone within minutes. Sometimes, I get diarrhea to go along with it though. People keep suggesting pregnancy, but I had my last period about three weeks ago. Even if I was late for a period though, it never comes when it should. I once went 4 months without one, so that isn't much of an indicator of anything. If you do find an answer, please let me know
