    Joining a gym
My girlfriend and I both want to join Planet Fitness gym. I'm 18 she is 16. Is she old enough to join a gym as a member?

Also do people look at you when you're working out? I hate people watching me when I work out or play sports. The only sport I ever felt comfortable with somebody watching me was when I played soccer.

Has anybody been to PlanetFitness, is it a good gym? It's only $10 a month which is cheap around here so I thought I'd try it.

    Thanks :)

Snippy, $10 a month is awesome! I go to the Walter Bakers Gym which is around $350 a month!

As for the minimum age to go to a gym, it is usually 14 years old. You guys shouldn't have any trouble.

I get looked at quite a lot, I try to wear workout attire that is not too tight and revealing. I also have my head phones blaring, this helps me get pumped to do the LIFTS and stay motivated!

You are making a good choice by going to the gym! :p

I went to the gym today and they told me my girlfriend wouldn't be allowed to work out there unless she is with her parent. This sucks :(

So she can drive but she has to be accompanied to run on a treadmill?

Hm.. I find that rather discriminatory, she is a young adult.. fully capable of making wise choices on her own.

I heard Planet Fitness sucks... if they don't have free weights (barbells and dumbbells) or don't allow to squat or deadlift, leave it. I know the price is good, but...

I got dumbells and barbell/bench at home so I'm not really worried about that anyway. But I do know where you are coming from with that because free weights are very important in exercise. :)

Anyway we are going to check LifeStyles to see their pricing and to see if my girlfriend would be allowed to workout their without a parent.

Just a quick suggestion about the gym thing. If you guys find one you both like make sure you ask them if her parents consent if she CAN go there and workout without them. Some gym's will allow you to. We had a family membership when I was that age and I can't recall ever having gone with a parent to work out, I only went with them to play racket ball. We singed another extra form to do this. Depending on the gym it may be possible if her parents don't mind you taking her to work out. Worth checking into at any gym. Get a tour before you sign anything, you might like the price, but not the gym itself.
