That is a "Dinner plate Dahlia" it's actually a little smaller than a dinner plate, but still large.
There is a pond in the yard (with fish), but what you see in the back ground is part of the pool, or as K said (cement pond)
JmJoseph, I don't think they are edible, it would be a lot to eat  I think I'll try to find out.

Yesterday I did my 8 week fertilizing (I started with those 'Jobes mini spikes' 2 to a plant)2nd app after 8 weeks. I put the first 2 in my new Hybrid, which I am hand watering and keeping away from all other plants.:)
I did have to tie up a lot of plant parts that didn't want to cooperate and stay inside the cage, also put up some old metal fencing to help support, it's not pretty, but will keep them off the ground.
I might be pulling in a couple 'Mama Mias' this afternoon. I have a large San Francisco Fog that looks absolutely perfect, maybe ready by the weekend.:D
No more sign of disease, but one plant 'Big Boy' isn't looking too good, and my other 'Big Boy' still looks like a baby plant.
News on UDT...
Only have about 5 toms and 4 just recently appeared. My first tom from a while ago is small a little bigger than a golf ball and it is starting to ripen:eek: Maybe the rest will do a little better.

Okay, timeout's over... You can come out an play with the rest of us... :D
Seriously..., I need to play "Smokey the Bear" and help put a fire out.
First I have to qualify what I want to discuss:
Did anyone know that they have tom plants and toms for dinner on the (ISS) International Space Station?
More on that later. Now I can tie this in. It may be covered in the Science or Computers and technology forums of AMHD. I thought this died six years ago...
Neighbor Harry called me last night and asked me; Is Mars, going to be the closest it ever has to Earth, and as big as the full Moon this August?
I'm not going to get into a long explanation, because it doesn't deserve anyone's time.
You can read 'bout it here:
NASA - The Mars Hoax Goes Viral
snopes.com: Mars Close to Earth
SPACE.com -- Mars Hoax Circulates: 'Big as the Moon!'
It's at the bottom here:
NASA - Science@NASA
The truth is that Mars is not an "Evening Star", and is barely a "Morning Star" in being paired with Venus. It will not be conveniently visible to North America till 'round December.
Mars in August 2009
If anyone tries to tell you different... You tell them from me that "It's all a bunch of Hooey"
Thank You! I'll go an put my soapbox away now, and stand in the corner for a while...
On a lighter side...
Try to see Friday's edition of NFTB, the asexual post has me intrigued and I'm putting together a short presentation on "Propagating Double Impatiens".
'Bout the ISS there will be an excellent sighting for almost six minutes, tonight, and most of the East Coast (except So. Georgia, Fla. and "b" :( if your in northern N.S., not sure 'bout jmj) from 9:57pm edt to 10:03pm edt
Ground Track Plot
JD, I know it looks strange compared to mine, but here it is:
Ground Track Plot
If I have this right it will overfly London five minutes later for almost five minutes
Ground Track Plot
Keep in mind.......these are all Local times........

No they are ignoring me, which is surprising since the State does a lot with tomatoes, but maybe I wasn't important enough:(
I have a pic, not quite as cool as K's. I added some basil and green beans (which I have been ignoring:o) from the garden.:D

My Dear, you are being Far... far, too modest.
I hesitate to put a monetary value on the culmination of your efforts, but, You could charge Ten dollars American for that appetizer at La Folie.
Love the plate.....Heirloom China?
Write Co. ext. again and shake their indeterminate vines. You might be surprised to see what happens.

JD... well I'd have to say that is one awesome looking flower and one yummy looking plate of veggies :D
K. I've come back to play... I do believe if I read the national geographic website correctly and remember it all right I do believe they are trying to grow veggies in space mind you I don't know if they are trying tom's or not. I think seeing mars would be neat... mind you I don't believe the hoaxes going around. I've got friends going on about the end of the world in 2012 and all that stuff... I just cant, won't and will not believe it until viable information from someone like nasa comes out.

Many theories have been advanced to interpret why, the Mayans stopped their Tzolkin at the Baktun of
12 ~ 21 ~ 2012
Some have even pegged it at 11:11am GMT
I am not sure which I believe in. they all have, some valid points.
The strongest for me; is the Mayans felt it would be a time of transition.
A transition to what?
The Attachment is the Mayan Glyph for the date.
This is available for more study:
time for 12-21-2012 - Google Search

This is a physiological leaf curl. The large-fruited varieties are more prone to it. Nothing can or need be done about it.

I don't see a need in worrying because nothing can be done about it anyway. I believe we will go in a tremendous catalyst of varying degrees starting soemwhere in the world. That is to say, another continent will perish first and then possibly the one we are on.
I don't think having an underground bunker with supplies to last a certain amount of time is going to do any good.
There is absolutely too much technology available to world powers as it stands right now. What different does it make actually, who does it first. They will be doing it to themselves as well.
A passive tick just enjoying what she has and living for the moment and enjoying those she loves to the fullest of her capabilities. Salute the Mayans !
Hugs to all

Hi! jomercer, Welcome to AMHD, and the UDT thread :)
I believe your in reference to Just Dahlia's Leaf Curl Pix's on; Page 9 ~ Post 86. Can you verify that?
When you say "physiological" do you mean a type of stress? What type?
Can you cite references for verification?

Its been a while now and I realized... I don't have an avatar.
Since We've recently touched on the Mayan Culture, and I have more than a passing interest in them.
I decided to use one of their Glyphs as one, for now. It represents Earth.
I will be using the following two links to understand. The first may be too dry for some tastes.
Please watch on the second, Google search link. I found some dead links on the "authentic" sites.

I love that you chose that symbol K.. Its also very intresting looking. I was thinking of getting a myan tattoo but I wasn't sure where to begin looking for proper glyphs. So far I have a lady bug tattoo (prosperity and luck) two butterflies (love and freedom) Its nice to see you with an avitar finally :D
I've always loved ancient culture. I love learning new things and discovering things that are used today that were actually used long ago.. for example. . I found out yesterday that a few hundred years AD the chinese actually had flamethrowers (dont you just love the ancient histroy channel) neat huh.
Got lots of planning to do today. Our friends daughters 10th birthday party is today and I've got to get her something. And I'm going to start drawing flower bed plans by my front door I get wicked good sunlight there where in my last place the windows were badly placed and I got NO sun at all and no sun around the front door we had (which was all the property we had LOL) so I get to go nuts.. might not plant anything but it'll be nice to have it all planned and marked and ready to go

Physiological in the sense that it's not a pest or disease. Some cultivars just do it more than others and some envrionmental factors such a cool temps could be involved . Any Extension home garden tomato publication talks about it.
Here's one from North Dakota with a good picture under the "non-parasitic" bookmark--they call it "leaf roll":
