Does anybody else eat fried green tomatoes beside myself? We live real close to where the movie was shot.("Fried Green Tomatoes").They still have the Whistle Stop Café there. Don't waste the green ones Dahl. Let me know, I'll give you the recipe. One year I fried half of what we grew. They're great!

Here you go:


Fried green tomatoes


3/4 cup cooking oil 1 cup milk
3 to 4 med. Sized green, firm tomatoes 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 eggs salt,pepper, and garlic powder
To taste.


Place cooking oil in a 10 " skillet. Mix eggs with milk and blend well. Slice tomatoes in 1/4" slices. Dip each slice in the milk and egg mixture and then dip them in the flour and place slices in the skillet over very low heat. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to each tomato slice. Brown each side slightly to a golden brown. The tomatoes will be soft, and should be served hot.

These are just as good, and sometimes more popular, if you use self rising cornmeal.

After reviewing your recent pictures, I regret to inform you, that I believe they are in early development of the tomato mosaic virus.

I resubmit one photograph with areas circled, that I compared with known virus specimens.
The one area especially at lower right in the shade has the characteristic leaf deformity.

Are you able to open any of the fruit for inspection?
Does any of the fruit show any signs of discoloration? (brownish spots)

I encourage you to show these pictures to a local expert for confirmation.

Ohh no.. That doesn't sound good... does the mosaic virus completely destroy your plant? What are the late symptoms of it if the possibility of her plants having them are showing the beginning of the symptoms?

It can, if left to it's own design.

Wow... those poor plants :( I feel for them... so it ruins everything I see.. that's no good at all. Lets hope early action can help then because it would be horrible for her to loose her plants... how's it going on your end KU?

Thanks for the info on trying to save them. I have to read more later, because I am at work.

No official confirmation yet, but last evening I got disgusted and cut off all the bad leaves and today I am going to move the sad plants as far away from my other plants as possible.:(

Some are actually touching the good plants.:eek:

I will also follow the rules for trying to save them.

I did cut one tomato that was a little deformed (could be due to a growth spurt) and it was all green inside. :) The others look OK.

I still have 6 plants unaffected or undetected, so I still have hope.:)

If they all get infected, I can always start over or buy from the market.:D

Lol JD its because the d's were lowercase not in caps... well that's good to know :D I've heard of people spelling it tomato and tomatoe but if it was pluralized wouldn't it need an s on the end.. so it would be tomato, tomatoes

Ok, I'm home and I managed to move one about 4 feet to an old tree stump behind the pool. Still have to lengthen the drip to it, but it's almost 100 degrees again:eek: so I needed to get out of the sun.

The other 3 are in the ground, with one all alone about 8 feet away. I'm taking my chances:rolleyes:

I tied up everybody, so no one is touching any one else, just like kids in the back seat of a car, it won't be allowed.:D

I'm pretty sure I have at least 3 that I never touched as they are behind some flowers and in front of a Yucca, so I might not have contaminated them.
The 3 that are in the ground, I'll watch and stop bringing out the Hooka to share tobacco smoke and swap stories.:cool:
