For me it takes about 6-8 weeks of fairly consistent work to make a new routine a "habit"... something ill miss if I stop... something I might even crave. So you need to find a way to push yourself to make that effort now... if you putter around for a week or two, you really just are a week or two "behind schedule".. y'know? I've done that myself.

All that said, I think a person can see real results within 2-4 weeks if they are really doing a good workout. Maybe it'll be a change in appearance... maybe it'll just be a stronger body that will be ready to crank in the outer form...

And, like I always post on the fitness thread stuff I write, keep a workout schedule/journal... on paper. Something you must write down and look at. People who keep workout journals tend to stay on track... just like those who use a trainer or who have a workout buddy. So if you are worried about staying on schedule, make a schedule that you have to address everyday.

Love the idea of working out as soon as you can in the morning. Gets it done. Checked off the list. Opens up potentially another light evening "workout" even if that's just a stroll or bike ride with the kids.

Does the gym offer an initial consultation with a personal trainer? Even if it's a one time thing, for a fee (and sometimes its free for one time), they can talk you through some things that might keep you organized and on track.

Well, I got two REALLY sweet cards and a cake and... oh yeah 2 rose bushes because the other ones never last. But I promise you I have gone a few with nothing. But I think the whole cancer thing this past October changed my man. Karma always comes through with the good. It just seems to take a while.
