Children Playing sex
I want to know what to do when your 5 year old son talks about sex? What do I tell him if I find him playing in the bathroom with his friend, touching their genitals?

Was he actually talking about sex, and knowing what it was? Where did he learn it? When I was in.. About 1st grade, so close to the same age me and my best friend kissed with tongue. We were playing house, and I was the dad and she was the mom. (btw I am not lesbian) I think that there can be a lot of reasons this happened. Maybe he is just curious? Did he see it somewhere? In my opinion I don't think its anything to worry over... although I would want to know where my 5 year old was learning about sex if it wasn't for me.
If you walked in on your son with him touching someone else; I would just sit down and tell him that its not appropriate. Maybe tell him that it is someone else's private space and no one else should touch it. You want to make sure that he isn't doing anything to make the other child feel uncomfortable. Again, I don't think it's that big of deal, but I am interested in hearing other opinions on this subject.

You should have had a conversation about good touches and bad touches. What is acceptable to do and what is not and what is acceptable to have someone do and not do to him as well.
Go to the library or buy an age appropriate book that explains these concerns in detail.
It is normal to play doctor ,he should not feel ashamed but he also has to learn about boundaries.
Get the book and continue to educate him as time goes on.Telling him once is not enough.Every now and then reread it.That is one way to insure his personal safety and the safety of others in his presence.

I don't think a 5 year old would understand what sex talk is. He might have been playing with friends and a "you show me your's and I'll show you mine" might have happened. If not then it might happen soon as most boys and girls go through this stage at different ages. Boys sex talk at age 5 no I don't think so. More so talking like" I have a willie, a doodle and so on, Wait till he gets older so he can understand that touch and play with their private parts is OK but in private.

IOt sounds like the age that he is discovering his various bits and bobs and exploring what they do (and being curious about other peoples too) Its not about sex, its just exploration of what his body does and looks like. I wuld have a chat about touching, I have always taught my children that they mustn't let anyone touch them where they wear underwear, or anywhere underneath their clothes, unless it is a dr and I am there also. And similarly they shouldn't touch others in the same way. Obviously as they get older they understand more, but that has been what I have said from very young, and it seems to have worked for us so far.

What kind of shows are you letting him watch? I am finding more and more parents allowing their children to watch stuff that is very age inappropriate. He is a child and should not understand what sex is.

I did not see anything about t.v being talked about in the post, I know for a fact as I have been through it myself that I played doctors with a friend and we didn't have t.v. kids have been doing this for ages now, Its called discovery. :oYes there is a lot sex on TV and most if not all of it would be aired after the child had gome to sleep. Maybe 7-8pm. p.s a child of 5 would not know what sex is at that age.

I agree here, I think really the only affect TV has is the level of discovery. They first time I played doctor I didn't know about the kissing in tongues thing (they didn't do that on TV yet) I was pretty grossed out. In first grade I knew sex existed and even though I played doctor I was unaware of the actual procedures of intercourse, though if a parent had walked in they probably would've thought we knew way more than we did but we didn't. It isn't really anything to worry about. I know at some point I grew out of it, so did my friends and we never spoke of it again. I am pretty sure that is probably how it goes.
