    UPDATE:

I just got a call from Starby's friend. Starby is in rough shape, will probably be in the hospital for a month, possibly more. This is going to be a slow recovery, she will be needing help when she gets to come home.

Her friend is contacting Starby's family, telling them that they are going to have to pitch in, suck it up, she needs them now.

Niki is still at home, Starby's friend goes every morning to feed her, give her water, let her outside for a romp and bathroom break. Niki is not happy, she's never been alone before, but the friend cannot take her back to her house.

Starby's friend has been trying to get in touch with Starby's brother to tell him he has to take Niki until Starby comes back home. So far no luck, but Niki is getting the basics so no worries.

Starby's friend now has my email address and she promised to keep me posted on any new developments. As soon as I hear something, you'll hear it too.

    That's it for now.

Poor Starby, I really hope she gets better sooner than what doctors assume.

I wish I could help her somehow.

    So do I.

Really, there's nothing any of us can do except what we're already doing.

In a week or so I'll print out all the posts on the get well Starby thread and send it to her, that will cheer her up.

I'm also going to talk to her friend, see if someone has a laptop they can lend Starby so she can come talk to us while she's in the hospital. I know that would make things better for her.

Right now I'm just racking my brain trying to figure out what can be done.

I'd like to talk to her brother. I know he comes to Edmonton once in a while. If he's planning a trip soon then he can bring Niki here, I'll take care of her till Starby is able to. Heck, I already have 3 dogs, what's one more? ;)

If anyone else has any ideas I'd be glad to hear them.

How about renting a labtop for a month? I don't know if they have it at the city she's in but where I'm at they have that sort of thing.

    Just a thought.

Good idea. I'll look into it and then tell her friend to solicit money from her family to pay for it. It's the least they can do. Heck, it's probably the least they will do. :(

It's going to look like I'm promoting this site but go to kijiji [or craigslist]. Post an ad that you want to rent a laptop for a month- students or just general people may like to get an extra 100 or so for that one month.

Also cheque small computer businesses [ I don't think future shop, staples or any other large department store does this].

    I'll check into it Muddy.

The problem will be getting the money to pay for it. Starby doesn't have any extra income, either do I right now.

In order to do this I'm going to have to contact her family. Lord knows they have the means to do this for her, it's not a matter of can they, it's a matter of will they.

When Starby's friend emails me I'll bring up the laptop idea, see what she can do. My influence is minimal, I can't be there in person to make sure everyone in her family falls in line. Trust me, I wish I could be. I'd go full blow Alty on their a$$es. :)
