I have a friend who is 17 going to be 18 pretty soon and she has been with her boyfriend for almost 3yrs.they are very sexually active.they have sex almost everyday and have not used protection,they have only used it about five times during those 3yrs.she has never gotten pregnant.but now is worried,because she hasn't had a period in 6mnths and has been having brown,fishy smelling discharge.also this morning she said her nipples are hurting only when she touches them.shes here with me know can someone please tell her what could this be.. thanks[note:shes taken pregnancy test all come back negative]

Hi this is ashlyn,I've seen my doctor and she says the brown discharge is old blood that's coming out from not having a period.but my nipple pain just started this morning.

EDIT: saw the post. You need to seek a second opinion. Doctors should tell you why your experiencing your condition and what you can do about it- seek a second opinion by going to a different doctor, or going to a walk-in clinic.

no she is not on any form of birth control she has been on birth control before but thought she didn't need it after not being pregnant before while not using protection every time she is intimate

That now was probably the dumbest things I've heard. Condoms aren't 100% and they don't help when it comes to spontaneity. If pregnancy is an issue, and something you do not want, then you need to be prepared with a back up contraception. Be sex smart. Even with all the contraception in the world you are still at risk of pregnancy and STD's/AIDS/HIV. If you can't handle the consequences- don't open your legs.

Either way- not having your period could be because she indeed is pregnant or it could be other major health concerns or stress related.

Go to a doctor. All we can do on AMHD is offer advice and our opinions. We can't diagnose.

You can still get pregnant.I am not saying you are now,I'm not a medical professional.
The birth control pill does not protect you from STDs. Again I'm not saying you could have one.

She needs to ask for a blood test. Not only to see if she's pregnant but to see if there any abnormalities.
Urine test can often yield a false negative. It happened to me many times when I was pregnant with my daughter.

It's is normal to discharge about a teaspoon a day that is white or transparent, thick or thin, and odorless. Discharge is different at different times of the month [ovulation, menstrual flow, sexual activity and birth control].

Here is a list of types of discharges and what they mean that I got from the net.

White: thick, white discharge is common at the beginning αnd end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: this is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: this occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or green: may indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: may happen right after periods and is just "cleaning out" the vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Spotting blood/brown discharge: this may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle. Sometimes early in pregnancy you may have spotting or a brownish discharge at the time your period would normally come. If you have spotting at the time of your normal period rather than your usual amount of flow, and you have had sex without using birth control, you should seek a doctor and ask for a pregnancy test; urine or blood exam.

Rule of thumb is: if you have; yellow or green colored discharge, it's clumpy like cottage cheese, there is pain, itching, discomfort, rash or sores or with the discharge.
