My three year old can't talk.
My son was born with seizures and was on medication for it for five months and he seen a neurologists regularly for quite some time till his insurance was cancelled. He can't talk really he can say momma and daddy and he used to say cut the pickle (his game with grandpa) and one time he said cat in the hat but that is it and he has had three speech therapists but has had no progress his hearing is perfect and he understands simple and some not so simple commands. He was also tongue tied but it was "freed up" at 2 1/2 weeks old so I know that is not what is causing it I am just so scared that he will never talk. He is fine in every other way he babbles non stop but nothing that makes any sense. :(

What have the speech and medical professionals told you?

If he were my son, I would learn basic sign language (there's a type for children now) and then teach him signs. He would enjoy that (make it a game).

Please relax. If nothing is physically wrong, he will eventually talk. And there are so many talkers in this world, it is refreshing to find out about people who don't want to chat mindlessly and constantly like everyone else does. (I'm thinking especially of cell phones.)

Well none of the speech therapists he has been with really did any good the first one tried to teach him to blow bubbles  the second one just played with toys  then the third one wanted to take pictures to help him associate things with their picture but came once and never came back. His doctors keep sending him for hearing tests and I know he can hear.

Each specialist should have written a report and given your primary doctor (or you) a copy. Didn't any sit down with you afterwards and talk about their findings? I would do my best to get my hands on those reports (i.e. find out what they say).

I would say seizures could have something to do with the delay in speech. My son is 2 in a half and we have been worried about his speech development as well, He does not have seizures but the mother does.

Many say that speech comes with time.

Did the seizures go away or does your child still suffer from the seizures. Have these speech therapist try to sit you down and guide you on ways to do your part in helping focusing on speech development.

There are many simple things to start to do with your child to help focus on speech development.

So it seems that his understandings there. As far as what the therapists did each one has a different approach. Toys is a very good approach whether you think so or not.
