That area of Luke shoud be brockeb down like this...
    (From the New jerusalem Bible)

    The condition of following Christ

    23. Then, speaking to all, he said, "If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me.
    24. Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, will save it.
    25. What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?
    26. For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man will be ashamed when he comes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

    The kingdom will come soon

    27. `I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

    The transfiguration

    28. Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray.
    29. And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became sparkling white.
    30. And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah
    31. Appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.
    32. Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two men standing with him.
    33. As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." He did not know what he was saying.
    34. As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into the cloud the disciples were afraid.
    35. And a voice came from the cloud saying, "This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him."
    36. And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time, told no one what they had seen.

I believe the first passage read that way is fairly clear.
The second however is a prediction if the establishment of The Kingdom on Earth, that is The Church.
In the third it presents to the three apostles a new way of seeing Jesus as The Christ.
Two of the great mean of the Old Testament are seen with Jesus in glorious light.
And Moses DOES get to set foot in the Holy Land.
Jesus is transfigure from one appearance to another of great glory with a special message from the heavenly Father, "This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him." .
Which amplifies how very special Jesus is.
    Peace and kindness,
    Fred

The sufficient comprehension of the scripture's meaning would be better understood when you are familar with who Moses, Elias, and let's add John the Baptist to the list. Each have their ordained calling as servants of God.

John the Baptist was very well known as the preacher in the wilderness, who Jesus said in Matthew 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Now from what Jesus also said in the following scripture.. And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias, which was for to come

Point being that John the Baptist suffered (death), John was beheaded in Matthew 14:10 ... And by that suffering death, also heaven suffers.. John suffered (death)= the act of evil men who follow satan. Yet we know John as the follower of Christ does live...

Concluding that Elias was also a prophet of the law, and Moses was the law giver. Neither suffered death here on this earth. (Death) means suffering satan's evil works done by men who follow satan. Scripture is about life or death, heaven or hell.

Known of Elias .. he was taken up to heaven without dying, whence the Jews expected he would return.

Known of Moses .. he did not see the promise land, and was safely guided throughout his life by God. And in Jud 1:9 Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses.

There is more to this concluded evidence of both Moses and Elias, but it would be off thread to continue their ordained path which is intended by God for both servants.

The proclaimed truth is to follow Christ and believing in Life eternal
