Are we responsible for the remainder of lease?
My husband are forced to move because we can no longer afford the home we are renting. The lease agreement expires the end of March. We will be able to pay February rent and give a 30 day notice but we no longer have income coming in. Will we be responsible for the remainder of the lease?

If you gave first and last down. March is already paid for.

This is exactly my situation, our lease ends March 31 but we want to move March 1 to a new place, we are responsible for the last month's rent (March 2009) unless we find a new tenant for the landlord.

Some states require the landlord to make a good faith effort to re-rent the empty unit but if they cannot they can come after you for the last month's rent.

You are responsible for the rent until the end of the lease (even though it's "only" for the month of March).

The landlord very well might be willing to allow you "out" a month early if you assist in renting the house so I would contact the landlord and ask.

In many States you cannot use security toward rent but that is something to ask about the landlord. If there are no damags, perhaps he'll just credit security toward your rent.
