    Does Hernia need surgery ?
My older brother is 50 years old. He has been complaining of lower abdomen pains, especially when he bends down or moves his body (like get in and out of a car). He thought it was a muscle or something but it did not go away. After a trip to the doc he was told he has Hernia and needs surgery. Can this condition be treated by medication or exercise of some kind to avoid going under the knife ? Many thanks.

You wish. A hernia is a tear in the lining surrounding the stomach which lets part of your bowel slip out. If not repaired causes pain and can lead to even greater problems, I know I have had a couple.
