    It sounds like your lifters are making noise. You can try an engine flush; see if that helps to clean them up.

    . Civic valves need to be periodically adjusted--sounds like your's needs it now.

    . Use 5W-20 or 5W-30 full-synthetic engine oil (e.g. Mobil 1) and a premium oil filter with a silicone rubber anti-drain back valve (e.g. Purolator PureOne). Afterwards, oil pressure will build 7 times faster than with conventional oil.

    I would never recommend an engine flush, especially for a noisy valve. Engine flush solvents loosen up all kinds of gunk that can eventually clog oil galleries and cause severe engine damage. Most car manufacturers have service bulletins that advise AGAINST engine flushing.

    Txgreasemonkey's advice is right on target. Just make sure you buy a premium filter, not the "sale priced" filters (even if they are name brand).

    I've had a few customers use engine flushes to quiet up their lifters without any problems. Just curious(not trying to be argumentative, although some people think otherwise), how could it cause engine damage if you're immediately draining the oil with the gunk floating in it and replacing it with clean?
