How to clear record of 15 year old son caught shoplifting
My 15 year old son was caught shoplifting in May 2008 at a local Loblaws store. The value of the theft was about $5.00. He wasn't charged. He was released into my custody.

To earn his high school volunteer hours in a nursing home he needed a "Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector" report which I applied for. Of course the Report included the information regarding the Shoplifting incident.

My son would like to eventually become a firefighter. He's now in grade 10. When he eventaully applies to become a firefighter they may request the same Record check. I'm concerned that this may hamper his chances at becoming a firefighter.

How long will this shoplifting incident remain on his file and be available when a Record search is conducted?

Was he actually arrested? In order to get the incident removed from his record I believe you'll need an Attorney because it's obviously on his permanent record. It still will show up on certain types of record checks, including Government jobs.

Did he have to pay for the merchandise, make some other type of restitution, is he banned from the store?

Sorry your story does not add up and is not correct.

** Assuming USA, only convictions show up on a police record.

If he "was not charged" then there was no arrest, no court, no juv probation, no RECORD.

So if there is a record then there was an arrest and conviction ( or plead guility or something)
