Do I have the right to my personal belongings?
My ex boyfriend and I were together for 4 1/2 years.
About a month ago, he decided that he (we) were leaving Arizona to move back east where oure families are. We packed up everything (mostly my things) and we drove cross country for 4 days making plans to go back and put HIS condo up for sale (to go back together). I even asked him 3-4 times if he were going to leave me and come back himself and he kept telling me NO NO NO!
Well, he DID just drop me off at a relative's house in Ohio, told me he did not love me anymore, etc.
A lost of my things are still in his house in AZ, and they do not recognize common law marriages. What I need to know is this: since he mislead me into thinking WE were coming back to AZ, do I have a righ to my personal belongings that are still in there, clothes, computer accessories, and much, much more.
How do I go about getting these items to me if I can, and can I make him pay to ship them to me as I am on disability due to cancer? Please Help! Thanks, Patti

I don't know why this is posted in the bereavement section. I've asked that it be moved. No one will see it here.

Common law will have nothing to do with this - your belongings remain your belongings but you would have to sue him to get them back which is difficult if your belongings are in Arizona and you are physically in Ohio.

You or an Attorney could write him, itemizing what you want returned to you and asking that he pay the shipping costs. If he refuses what you will do next will depend on whether the cost of an Attorney is more or less than the value of your belongings.

I know this has been asked before but I'm still confused. I live in Kansas. I had a room mate who lived with me for about 6 months while she tried to get away from an abusive husband. During that time she never paid rent or bills, but she did buy a few pieces of furniture. When she left (to go...

So a person I knew came into my room and grabbed two items totalling about 140$. He told me that he took them because I supposedly owe him 100$ on a poker site, in which I lost money that he had won on my poker account. Do I have any legal recourse that I can take? I have two witnesses to him...
