Thumping flushes/bathroom odor
Hello,
Whenever we flush the loo, the pipe thumps a few times as if we flushed a loaf of bread-even if it's just Comet and water. Also, the bathroom smells like a sewer no matter how much cleaning we do.
We did some work in the floor below the bathroom a few months back, and the ceiling is still wide open-all the pipes are visible and not leaking.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

What kind of work was done. Sounds like maybe a venting problem

Thanks for the reply.
We replaced the old lines to the sink and the shower. We didn't go near the toilet plumbing.
I was wondering about that, though. Could the vent have somehow become plugged from above? Bird?

Does the thumping come while the water is draining out of the toilet, while the tank is refilling of after the tank has refilled?

Very possible, also try draining the lines (water) with all taps open(shut off main), then slowly turn water back on and turn off taps one at a time starting from bottom -up. This shoulget rid of any possible air trap in your water lines. Could the toilet have been flushed with the water off? This somettimes cause an air trap. This time do not flush but pour down a bucket of water in the toilet to fill line with water as you turn the water back on. Good luck.

Immediately upon flushing, it sounds as if sneakers are traveling down our pipes. It's definitely not in the tank, or the re-fill process.
Thanks again.

Try the draining, pretty sure you have an air trap.

Hello,
I just purchased my first home and recently the downstairs (main floor) bathroom has a horrible odor. I read other questions and answers but still am not sure what to do. I used a product to "clear/clean" the toilet and "flush away" the bacteria but the smell is still present. There is no...

Hello, I have an egg type odor in my bathroom, it's faint enough that my husband does not smell it, but I do. It's a new construction home, and we have a septic/well. I think it's coming from the sink. Do you know what might be causing this and what I can do about it? :) Thank you very much, Kathy

I tiled my floor at least 1 month ago, and am now noticing a bad odor from my bathroom. However, due to the limited size, I cannot tell if it's from my sink that has been backing up for a few weeks, or toilet? The sink problem is that it backs up on me, and I have recently cleaned out a nasty...
