Water turned off
I'm not sure where to post this so forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this. But there was a water main break outside my building. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to fix a water main break so that my water will be turned back on?

Utilities are Usually pretty quick? That is how they make their money. If lacking parts or equipment, time could vary. I would go down and ask someone on site.

If a water main breaks it breaks and they got to fix it. Otherwise everyone's bills are going to be higher. And its not good for our environment. It will be okay they will get it fixed. I thought they just shut it off for no good reason. This has to be fixed!

The utility may provide bottled water to those affected especially when the outage is expected to last more than 12 hours.

Hey otroubles:
Hey, you said water main broke outside your building? How many units in your building? How far away is the next building with working water?
If this lasts overnight, the utility company can always attach a long hose (they have plenty! ) to a neighbor's outside faucet and feed water to your unit via an outside faucet at your building. They will, of course, need to drop your neighbors water meter in this situation... which means neighbor doesn't mind 'cause they get free water and sewer during repairs.. ;)
Anyway, that's what they do in my area when break repair lasts more then 12hours.
Let us know your thoughts... how it is going? Mark

Mass Plumber has a good Idea, Make sure it is does not have a backflow preventer or water will leak out. You may need to turn off your main, and it may take a little time to fill all the flushed Toilets.

We were out at one location for about 3 days ( but it was a major issue.
But normally most are fixed within 8 to 10 hours many a lot faster.
If this is on the city, it is out of the landlords control and he can not be held liable for it.
