I have just received a phone call from a collection agency stating that they had purchased an alleged old debt from SBC from 1998. I don't know how they got my cell number and they would not tell me. I dispute this old bill especially when SBC called Ameritech then could not produce any old bills. What would be the staute of limitations on this old original debt from 1998 and does it change because a collection agency purchases this so called debt?

Also, would my current cellular company have given out my number?
