Water backing up in all drains
When you flush the toilet the sink gurgles. When I do laundry there are soap bubbles in the toilet. My kitchen sink when you drain one side the other fills up. Hubby checked the "cleanout pipe" outside and said it was full of water. He tried to run a snake through it and the snake is stuck. (which in turn he left it there and in now in bed) If you have any ideas help.

You have one heck of a clog and its need to come out. If your drain is 3" or 4" pipe I'd rent a rotary rodding machine with a cutter attacthment. You need to cut the clog out. I would also rod the vent stack with a 1/2" or larger snake.

Perhaps I can help with the roots. Going in, let me say that sooner or later you're going to have to bite the bullet and replace that old sewer line with PVC.
RootX or Robics Foaming Root Killer that contain Dichlobrnic are two products you could try to control the roots.
A less expensive way would be to call around to garden supply stores and ask for fine grain Copper Sulphate. Put a 1/2 pound in your toilet and flush it down. Repeat in 6 months.
    Hope this helps Tom

Ty Tom I will look into that. But will it kill the tree? It is a beautiful pine tree. And has been there forever.

Your tree should be OK. The copper sulphate kills the roots inside the pipe but should not get outisde the pipe and harm the tree. Tom correctly points out that now or later the pipe should be replaced with PVC because the roots will keep trying to grow back inside the pipe, they like the stuff you fkush down there. The garden center variety is about 2x cheaper than Rootx but does the same thing.
