Father of a newborn. Not allowed to see baby.
    Hello.

I'm looking for good advise, maybe even legal. I live in the State of Florida. My friend got his girlfriend pregnant they are only 18 years old, they are separated but he has always been there for her during the pregnancy. However, when the baby was born, no one called him to tell him that the baby was being born, we found out by coinsidence and when he went to the hospital he was not allowed to see the baby, per the mother's order.

    Is that legal?
    What are his rights?
    What should he do next?

I should also point out that the girl is planning on living the state, which he fears.

    Every advise would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Your friend needs to file with the courts and state the reasons he believes he is the father of this child. He can ask for a paternity test to be done by the courts and under court order. She must comply. He may also ask for an order that would hold her here until all testing is completed and the custody arrangement along with child support gets settled. This is not a wait and see situation he must do this yesterday. He really needs a lawyer and to move as quickly as possible but don't miss anything.

Since they are not married, he has no legal custody right until he goes to court. So he needs to go to court file for visitation rights, custody agreements and settle on a child support payment.

Is it legal for her to refuse to let him in her room? Yes, it is legal. It's called the patient's right to privacy.

What are his rights? Until he establishes paternity he has no rights.

What should he do next? Get an attorney.
