    If mother loses parental rights
    I recently found out I have a child with someone who is losing her parental rights. I never knew I was the father. The child is about 14 months old and lives in a foster home. How can I get custody of the child? The birth certificate does not have a father listed on it.

    Get a lawyer, first and foremost.

    You will probably need to get DNA verification that the child is yours, but that shouldn't be an issue.

    You will need to go to court to sue for custody, explaining the circumstances that led you to be absent from the child's life up to this point.

    Since CPS and the foster care system are involved, you will NEED a lawyer.
