    Pre- Calculus
    We were asked:

    If 527 - 142 = 345
    And 901 + 522 = 223
    Then 148 - 253 = ?

Can anyone help me on this?

Do you have any more information? Is that all your were given? Because the first 2 sums are clearly false.

Is it meant to be algebra i.e. the numbers should be letters?

What are you studying at the moment?

It seems that the numbers are meant to be interpreted as 12 hour clock times:

    5:27 - 1:42 = 3:45
    9:01 + 5:22 = 2:23(pm)

Knowing that you should be able to work out the aswer to the third sum.
