boyfriend a gambler
hi, my boyfriend has a gambling problem. He has dipped in to his 401k 3x to pay his mortgage that he can afford ,but does not due to gambling. We've been together 5 years and I love him and he loves me but he needs help. I have tried so many things like , yelling, getting mad, putting him down, they don't work obviously. I'm better now, I'm calm , I talk to him, thinking that might make a difference but it does not!! Majority of the people say leave. That is so hard to do. Any other advice. Im scared I don't care anymore then what will happen. The problem is he makes a lot more than I do, and I find myself giving him money, and when I need it he does not have it, is that fair. He's an addict & iwant to help him

Okay, so you've said you live with him. Do you pay for both of your assests or just yours?

First he has to recognize that he has a problem and at this point he should. Then he needs to go to counseling, there are hotlines for gambling addiction. Take control of the money so he can't gamble it away. Create a budget and set aside money spending money which if he wants to he can gamble away. Call the credit card companies alert them that he has a gambling problem they can and will restrict his credit cards. Cards like Capitol One don't allow people to charge on gambling sites.
If he doesn't comply separate.. and this could be the wake up call that he needs. Separation is not the end of the world just keep your door open he may come around a more mature and responsible man. Good Luck |
