    Crimainl Record, or not?
Hi, I am very, very anxious to find out if I have a criminal record or not.

I am 20. I shoplifted from a store (theft under $5000, specifically under $60) and I have no previous criminal record; this is my first offence. The store security just took me into the holding room and had me fill out forms and then had me pay for my stolen item. The other only thing they did was call the cops to see if I had any previous records, but I didn't. So, now I'm not sure if I have a criminal record or not. I would really really appreciate it if someone could help me! Thanks so much!

No, you will have a "record" in that stores files if you are ever caught there. And if you ever run for political office 20 years from now, expect someone to find this and use it against you.

But as for as the police, if they did not give you a ticket or if they did not arrest you. And if you did not go to court or pay a fine to the court.
Then no you don't have a record.

Thanks so much Fr_Chuck! By the way, I noticed it says your from the US--but I'm from Canada--so does the same thing still apply?
