    NY/NC part-year resident
    Hi.

I lived in NY state (not NYC) from Jan-Jun. Then moved to NC from Jul-Dec. My NY W2 shows my entire years wages, while my NC W2 shows the partial-year wages. How do I determine how much I made while a resident of NY? Do I go back to my last NY paystub and enter the W2 gross amount?

    Thanks.

Subtract the NC wage from the NY wage to determine your TRUE NY wage.

When you file the NY state tax return (as a part-year resident), attach the NC state tax return to show NY that you are paying NC the taxes due to them as a NC resident. That answers questions before they have a chance to be asked.

Also be sure to attach the NY return to the NC return. That is required as well.
