    Gas fireplace logs
My gas logs will turn off during use. This doesn't happen every time use them. I believe this is caused by the pilot going out but I don't know why. The pilot has never gone out except when the fireplace is in use. Neither of the three repairmen I've had in can find the cause. I'm ready to give up even though the unit is only two seasons old. Has anyone else had this problem and/or can you suggest a solution. Thank you so much.

There is a device called a thermopile on some gas fireplaces that controls the gas valve to open when flame is hot enough if the thermopile is faulty or dirty it won't work properly, and the gas valve will shut in some instances it just needs cleaning. You can clean it by gently rubbing it with emery cloth or steel wool.

I don't know if your logs are vented or non vented but the non vented logs need a sufficient amount of oxygen in order to burn. If your house is "TOO TIGHT", as some new houses are, it can cause your logs to shut off unexpectedley. I had the same problem and could only remedy the problem by cracking the window that was next to the fireplace. I hope this helps. Monty
