Is this the lowest fixture in the house.. If it is you may have a clogged main sewer drain line. Start by taking out clean out cover (use wrench) at the street side of the building if city sewer or yard side of building if on septic. Then try the washer again... does it overflow out the main drain cleanout? If it does then main line is clogged and you will need to rent a large sewer snake or call a sewer cleaning company.

If cannot get cap off with wrench.. get back to us for ideas. If washer not lowest fixture in the house... say you have a sink or tub or toilet in basement then you have a clogged washing machine drain line and will need to snake this drain individually.

Let us know how you make out! If this helped please RATE the ANSWER below. Thank you!

Follow Massplumbers instructions to check on a sewer main or septic tank problem. If the main's clear the clog's local and will have to be snaked. You may snake in two places. 1) You can snake from the washer standpipe **or** 2) you may snake from the washer roof vent. If you snake from the roof put out enough cable to reach the base and about 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom
