    Furnace : no heat // no AC (erratic)
    a) Furnace problem : no HEAT and no A/C...
    b) Furnace sometimes fires up itself and then goes back to being idle
    c) Gives off a humming sound (like it is ready to go) only, it aborts itself.

    Steps taken :
    1) Made sure thermostat is operational with fresh batteries and right setting.
    2) Made sure filter is clean.

    I will appreciate any input regarding this matter.

    We have gas heat and the last time this happened to us it was because the pilot light had gone out. We didn't attempt to light it ourselves but called the furnace people.
