Maytag gas dryer not drying very well
    Model: Maytag MDG2600BWW

Initial symptoms: timer did not advance in auto dry mode, clothes taking a long time to dry, occasional mild natural gas smell from exhaust.

Initial diagnosis: gas valve coils, based upon a review of similar problems in these forums. Coils seemed to ohm out OK, but the symptoms were remarkably similar, so I took a chance on purchasing a new set. Venting of the dryer was all clear and the timer also ohmed out OK.

Installed the new coils and ran the dryer for a few minutes with the front cover off. Observed the ignitor glowing, the flame lighting, and the burner running for about a minute or so. Burner turns off, and the cycle repeats about 30 seconds later.

Reinstalled the front cover and heard the cycling, although it seemed to occur less frequently (maybe every few minutes vs. every minute with the cover off).

Running some clothes in the dryer now. They seem to be drying, but I was still concerned about the cycling. How often should a dryer burner cycle when on the regular temperature cycle and auto dry?

Will know soon if the timer is advancing.

Thanks for any and all help.

The timer does seem to be advancing. Will be trying with a larger load of laundry soon (only a couple of towels in there right now which, I guess, could contribute to the cycling).
