You don't want to do that, they are to slick to use and there just not made to do it, just for flooring, if you want wood or a stain grade look then you need to buy oak treads and do it right

I agree glavine hits the nail on the head laminate is just not made for stairs even though the manufacturers will tell you its fine. Aside from it being slippery and it is, some worse than others ,it is also thinner than a solid tread so they tend to be noisy on steps. I realize that oak treads are far more expensive than laminate but you will be so much happier in the long run.

Don't want to beat a dead horse but we had a similar question last week. It is slippery and noisey and I do not do this installation even if requested. If you absolutely have no other option for reasons unclear to us make sure you glue the laminated to the step and riser. Most companies make a matching stair bull nose to give you a better, finished front edge to the step. No padding or backer, just glue, nail the bull nose.

I agree. A cust want this done for her stairs. I have laid 1800 sq of flooring already. If I use the oak treads for the stairs, can I use the laminate for the landing (only). Or could you use the laminate for the stairs with a carpet runner. Which would be best. Thanks for the response
