I am finishing my basement. The builder roughed in the plumbing for a full bath and we have a floor drain that both lead to a typical sewage ejector pump basin. The cover is “gas tight” and has a 2” vent, 2” drainage line and a smaller plug for the electrical lines. I’m told this is completely common.

Here’s my scenario… we’re moving the laundry into the basement and want to add a large utility sink. As it so happens, they are both placed very close to the actual sewage basin, but on the opposite side of a wall from the floor drain. I would like to plump the drain lines from the washer and the sink directly into the basin from the top.

My question is, can I cut another 1-1/2” hole into the top of the basin lid (assume I can find the appropriate gas tight fitting) and drain the washer plus sink directly into the basin? I’m thinking I would extend the 1-1/2” PVC pipe down into the basin and end maybe 2” above the water line.

Is there anything preventing me from doing this? I’m asking both from a code and “proper” perspective and just from the point of - does this make sense? Is there a better way? I would hate to dig up concrete for such a short run.

You already have a 2" line entering the top so why not cut into that line and install a 2" wye and run 2" to the laundry tub and then reduce down if you have to to go to the drain that is connected to it now.

Well, "code and "proper" perspective" wise, both drains should be 2" and neither should enter the basin above the vent of the ejector basin or the 'actuating' level of the pumps float switch.

And LETMETELLU, joe cannot tie into 2" pipe there because it is a pump discharge line!
