    How much money do I have to make in a year to have to file in lamens terms I'm just looking for a simple amount of money for state and federal

    If you are Single nondependent, then you must file if income is over $8,750.
    Also if yourself employed income is $400 or more, then also you must file.

    Even if you are not required to file, you may file to get refund of the taxes paid.
