Why would you want to do that, is there a difference between the W-2 and the pay stub?

You can prepare you tax return using your last pay stub and get ready for filing. But it is always safe to file when you actually have your W2 so that you don't make a mistake.

    Agreed!

While I HAVE successfully filed tax returns with the last check stub, I do not recommend it, as the W-2 covers items (like moving and education reimbursements) that may NOT be on thepay stub.
