Can I drain both a shower and tub into the same 2" DWV line by using a wye on its side for each fixture at the proper weir ht. before going into a common santee? The shower distance to the 2" common drain is about 6 ft. and I have the option of putting in its own vent to the stack. The tub is about 2.5 ft from the common drain.

Is the shower connecting to the tub line or is the shower and tub connecting independently to the drain line? Is the drain line vented? What size is the drain line? Is the drain line vertical or horizontal?

Thanks for taking the time. The questions you ask pointed me in the right direction. Originally, I thought that I could lay a wye on its side and drain both the shower and the tub into the same 2" vertical drain with a santee at the vertical drain. The 2" drain is vented to the roof. I realize that I will need an additional vent and that to put in two santees on the 2" drain to handle the tub and shower separately will probably be required. As it stands, I will put in a 2" tub line with a separate vent to a lower santee to be put in on the existing vertical 2" drain. Then I will add another 2" santee above that one for the shower drain to tie into that same 2" vertical drain above the tub tie in. Does that make sense?

What is the distance from the tub to the 2" existing vertical? are you going to use a studor vent in the dead space by the tub drain or tie it back into the vent above these drain lines, and how far above? legally and morally you can use 1 1/2" for the tub.

Is there any drain connections above this or below this? I don't think you can legally, or morally push a tub and a shower past a lavatory or sink drain on the same vent without re venting the lower fixture/s. legally you can use 1 1/2" on the shower. How far is the shower from the existing vertical?
