Wiring a furnace thermostat to manually operate the furnace fan

I have two wires connected to my furnace thermostat. There is a place labeled G on the thermostat. Can I simply run a wire from the G terminal on my thermostat to the terminal labeled G on my furnace fan relay to operate the fan separately?
Furnace humidifier or floor unit/ which is better

Ok now I've come to a block. I wanted to install a humidifier directly on the furnace so I asked for advise. I had a proffessional company explain that putting one on the furnace is a waste of time. It will rot/rust my furnace and I should go with a floor unit?? So... I ask for a second opinion...

This winter the furnace control board in my Lennox Gas Furnace / AC unit failed and I had it replaced by a contractor. The contractor mis-wired the thermostat inputs to the board. He wired the Green (fan) wire to the C (compressor connection) board input and the C wire to the Green (fan) board...
Replace furnace and ac unit both?

The repair person was here to look at my AC unit. It needs an a- coil and the since the unit is 8 years old he suggestion I might want to think of a getting new unit. If I do decide to get a new unit, do you think I need to also replace the gas furnace. Thanks for any guidance.
Occasional foul smell from furnace/AC Unit
