Installing control on a normal fan?
Hey there I'm new and I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. Im looking to buy a universal remote control for my room so I can control everything. Among the things I want control over is my fan speed and lights. But I don't have a remote control fan. Is there any receiver or anything like one that I could install in my current fan so that I could find the frequency on the universal or would I have to go get a new fan?

Other than the fan and light what else do you want to control. If you go with X10.com - X10 Home Security, Wireless Security Camera, Home Automation, Electronics and More! you can control just about everything in a home.

    X10 is a good idea.

You would need to buy a remote/receiver kit, and a Universal remote that is compatible with said receiver.

I have a whole box full of X10 stuff that my son got me for Xmas last year. He has half his house on X10 and loves it. As soon as I know what I want to control with it, I'll install my stuff. It really works well in his house! He even controls a lot of stuff for his swimming pool and spa with it.
