Reimbursement for land value on 1099
We are getting some amount of settlement money from a builder for selling us a incorrect lot size getting reported on a 1099 form.
Is there a way to avoid taxes since this money is more like a refund amount on the land we didn't receive!!

    Please help!
    Thanks
