    Mounting new toilet
I am remodeling our bathroom. For the floors I will be using Hardy Backer cement board, 1/4" thick. On top of that I will be laying ceramic tile.

My question is this; When installing the new toilet, do I leave the toilet mounting ring as it is now, or do I remove it and reinstall on TOP of the cement board? I am not sure if the mounting bolts will be long enough if I leave the ring mounted to the floor.

You'll need to buy a flange extension, basically it looks just like your toilet ring now except it will build up the ring by about a 1/2"
The flange or toilet ring, same thing by the way, need to be ontop of the tile, the tile should be underneath the ring, its best to lay all the tile then put the extenter ring on, it screws on the existing flange to build it up, you can buy these at Lowe's or home depot.
Best way to ask for it is just to say you need to build the toilet flange up for the tile floor
