    Furnace Issues
Hi, we have lived in our home a little over two years and every year we hear the same loud noise when our furnace kicks on "boom" . We have been told that everything is fine with the furnace but for some reason this sound does not make me feel safe. Does anybody know what causes this sound and how we can fix it

    Thanks in advance!

If you can go and stand next to the furnace, and have someone turn up the t'stat to have a call for heat, listen to the duct work. A common issue is when the blower starts and/or when the ducts start to heat up you get a "oil can" type of pop where a section of the ductwork pops out , and when the blower shuts down ( air pressure now off the inside of the duct) and / or the cooling of the dust, the sheet metal will pop back to it's original shape. This can drive you nuts... assuming that you said, you had the problem looked at by a HVAC contractor, and it is NOT a combustion problem. This can be corrected by adding some extra bracing material ( across and / or diagonal on the widest part of the duct ) that is causing this poping. It will take some investigation work to find the section that is causing this pop...

carlog1, many of your questions are answered complete with pictures at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/heatin...ons-58313.html

You have a little blower that supplies combustion air to the furnace. There is a pressure switch that tells the controls if the blower is working. The controls are not getting the signal theblower is running.
