I have a bathroom sink that drains well when the stopper is fully removed, but will not drain when the stopper is raised using the lift handle in the back if the sink.

Any ideas on how to repair this?

Look under the sink and see the pop-up assembly,(see image).
Loosen the wing nut on the vertical rod and push the horizontal rod as far down as it will go. If you run out of rod adjust the hole and clip to a higher level. The hoizontal rod wants to travel as far down as it will and as far up as it will go. Once you have that set, tighten the wing nut. It should drain better now. Regards, Tom

I have done that, but it makes no difference. For a while, it looked like I had an air lock under the stopper that kept the water from draining, as I could see that the water [I]was[I] stopped by an air bubble. I used some plumber's putty to fill up the bottom of the stopper, but it did not make any difference either.

I have looked in the trap, and it appears to be OK, but I cannot see how that might be a problem for the stopper bubble.

Also: the sink that has this problem is the right sink of two on the same drain line from the same vanity. The left sink has no problem draining. The house is 25 yrs old, and this has been a challenge for a number of years - not for the first 25 years, at least.

Are these vessel sinks or regular lavatories? Do they both have overflow wastes?
