Changing Public Defennder in Broward county Fl?
The original PD assigned to my brother's case a few months ago in Broward county seemed to listen to his case. When he showed up in court yesterday, a different PD showed up. She called him a scumbag and told him not to go to trial and just serve his 5 years... he goes back to court in December. She doesn't know the background of his case and didn't want to talk to him.

How can he get another PD without pissing off the entire department? By the way, the head of the PD dept. has a personal grudge against another member of our family for a silly incident that took place in college. And has on occasion let it be known to us that this is what our family deserves... besides being childish and vindictive,it is a bit unprofessional... to say the least. In anycase, I would just like to get an unbiased PD to know the facts of the case and not discriminate. Do you think that is possible?

15 years ago he was drunk and urinated at the beach in front of a family. Consequently he has to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life. This new charge is for "Failure to Register" at the Broward Sheriff's office. He DID register with the DMV, but apparently needed to register in 2 places. Even the officer that took him in agreed he was compliant and found him only because he had successfully registered at the DMV.
He had just served 3 years for the same charge "failure to register" so now he looks like a repeat offender. His previous serving time was warranted because he became homeless and never had an address to register.

Currently, is working and trying to function as a responsible member of society.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Hello K:

Your brother needs to write a letter firing his attorney for the reasons mentioned. He should send it certified, return receipt requested, and send a copy to the judge and the prosecutor.

It doesn't matter if he pisses off the entire PD department, because they won't be appointed again.
