    Changing public defenders/kansas
I have been given a public defender in Kansas and he has not represented me at all. My case is now going to trial because he will not even object to anything and just tells me to shut up. He hasn't asked or summoned anyone on my behalf for trial and it is in 3 weeks. I thought I had a right to an attorney to represent me and he acts like I am a generic case and wants me convicted without a good cause.

I would definiltley go in front of the judge and ask for another PD to be assigned to you. Tell him that you feel like your current PD cannot represent you with an unbiased attitude. If your not being treated like a person, and are being treated as a "case" then you need to seek another defender. If you don't try, you only have yourself to blame. Look at it his way, what do you have to lose by trying?

May I ask, if this a misdemeanor or felony? Does this offense carry jailtime?

    Hello sherilyn:

Fire him. Send him a letter outlining the reasons. You may certainly tell him just like you told us. I would. Send a copy of your letter to the judge and send a copy to the prosecutor. Send ALL your letters certified, return receipt requested.

    You'll get a new lawyer.
