HOT/Ground reversed on outlet down stream of a GFI
I recently installed a sink in my laundry room. A outlet above counter height was replaced with a GFI. This outlet feeds an outlet below counter for the washer. Prior to replacing the outlet with the GFI, both outlets were fine. Now that the GFI is installed, I am getting a correct reading on my tester of the GFI outlet, but the second outlet I am getting "hot/ground reverse" reading on the tester and the outlet is not working. HELP I need to do laundry!!

Sounds like the white wire has a loose or broken connection someplace, can be at either outlet. Be careful that the feed into the first outlet is connected to LINE on the GFI. And if the GFI is protecting the second outlet, that wiring needs to connect to LOAD on the GFI.

If the first GFI is not intended to protect the second outlet, both the feed and wiring to the second outlet will connect to the LINE side of the GFI.

Hi There! We just moved into a small, older (80 years?) apartment building and know very little about the wiring. I suspect some of it MIGHT be knob and tube, but I'm sure. Anyway, the light in the bathroom is on a dimmer that is on the wall outside the room. Inside the bathroom there is an...

Hot/ground reversed and 3-way switch [ 1 Answers ]

While I was troubleshooting a hot ground reversed problem, I noticed that the three way switch when turned on would change the three plug tester plugged into those outlets that do not work from "hot/ground reversed" to "correct". When I go to the other three way switch and throw the switch, it...

Hot and Ground Reversed [ 1 Answers ]

I went into a house today and my little plug in said I had a Hot and Ground Reversed. I popped open the box and took a look. Black to copper and white to silver. Everything OK there. Ground was present, terminated correctly and not touching the hot. My question is what is hot and ground reversed?...

Hot/Ground reverse on GFI receptacle [ 3 Answers ]

My screened porch has a ceiling fan w/light and a 2nd light fixture, both running off an outside GFI receptacle. In short, I ran wire from the GFI receptacle to a double switch box; one switch is wired to the fan fixture, the other switch is wired to the light fixture. All has been working fine for...
